Few Blunders while designing website part2

Contd from : Few Blunders while designing website

5. Use of widgets:  Its usually cool to share different widgets in website. Its cool also as most of the apps provide html code it just have to be copied in ur site. But before that please explore how the data being extracted and sometime due to these site take more time to load and it distract ur users.

6. Use of animation: Animations, gif images are cool but it also took huge time to load if not optimized properly. better to avoid it if it is not that important.

7. Marquee: Its of no use please avoid it. But it is understood few clients are desperate in getting such effect.

8. Search/Language/Font/Colour Scheme: Search feature to help the visitor to easily navigate through the content. If possible also provide bread crumbs so that navigation becomes useful. Google provide customized search feature use it if you are not ready for this exercise by yourself.

Reader may be from different language background and it would be injustice if translation feature is not available. If you targeting your local base you may ignore

Font adjustment to give comfort to the user to customize the font as per his need.

Is IE really dead?

Its almost a nightmare for every web developer/designer comply their sites in IE during cross browser testing. I doubt any designer who havenot cursed IE while burning midnight oil and fixing the CSS/HTML to work properly in IE. Hack, Filters are there in CSS to save from the humiliation of IE but again most of the hacks got caught in CSS validator and situation get even bad if your client is adament and he is typical IE user and really dont want to migrate his browser. Oh let me clear I am stil cursing IE6 I think the later version have improved thinking the pain of designers/developer. Anyway today just shocked to see the statistics and want to just awake the developers/ designers who think IE is dead. No testing is required for IE. Who in this world use IE at this age. Its sure that their popularity has declined but IE is not dead infact its still struggling to get at the top amongst the other browsers.

So beware next time that ur site may be dancing in IE and you may lose your important visitor. keep your eyes open for IE :)

Few Blunders while designing website

Will share some of the very basic loop holes which distract users a lot. Will jot down few points just came to mind while browsing through few sites.

1. Ignoring Centralized Layout:
I dont understand why few great designs dont follow the very basic thing. I have observed sites which are mostly left aligned.

2. Hovering effect:
While giving hovering effect sometimes developer increase the font size on hover effect as a result dancing effect occurs(if the cursor is placed in the border of hover). Moreover sometime the links are also become inaccessible due to hover effect.
This effect a lot in traffic for the portal also

3. On mouse over and out function:
Javascript lovers while giving nested menu option use the onmouseover and onmouseout function but if the layers are not place sometime it has been observed that the submenus become inaccessible

4. Cross Browser testing:
Please respect the taste of the user the end user may be using browser or OS. I know its pain in *** for developers for make it compatible in some browser but what to do? Atleast the site should be compatible in few browsers.

more to come.....

Is my creativity is safe on web?

One fine morning i was wandering if there was any tool to trach whether a particular image is copied/duplicated and reused in the other website. Some times the clients are very serious on this topic that the graphics used in his/her portal shouldn't be replicated(ofcourse if he has paid money for those photographs/images). For content there is tool like(copyscape) and we can google also not an issue. We followed those methods only while payoff to contentwriters but what for graphic designers. Thank God to to new Google Image search which has the feature to upload your image and get it searched for its existence in the web media. Another good tool i got is Tineye which is excellent tool for working and proofchecking of images

WordPress 3.2, you know what to do

Last week we released WordPress 3.2, a version focused on making WP faster and lighter with a refreshed dashboard, new Twenty Eleven theme, a zen writing mode, and more:

http://wordpress.org/news/2011/07/gershwin/

We waited to email because there were some issues  with the JSON module on some web hosts, which the just-released version 3.2.1 fixes. Download from WordPress.org or click the update button in your dashboard to get the latest.

What else is new? We're doing a census of the WordPress World, if you have 5 minutes take this survey:

http://wpsurvey.surveydaddy.com/s/wp-2011-e?src=ema

We're going to tally up the results and present them in my State of the Word talk next month in San Francisco, so send it to everyone you know who uses WordPress so we get the most representative sample.

There are also some fun WordCamps approaching in San Diego, Portsmouth, Boston, Chicago, Fayetteville, St. Louis, San Francisco, and Los Angeles:

http://central.wordcamp.org/

Hope to see you at one soon!

Stay cool,
Matt
